A: The Australian Association of Career Counsellors provides support and information for people looking to re-enter work or change career direction. Much depends on you focusing on what you know about yourself.

You have work skills, life skills, experience, personal interests and the best knowledge of your financial and family situation. Paint your own picture about where you want to, and can, head.

What really interests you? What transferable skills and experience do you have? What kind of job has caught your attention in the past? Is there a field of study that interests you?

Only you can answer questions like that and then you can do some serious networking, talking to people in different industries and businesses (on the phone, by letter and through meetings).

Now is a significant time for people who are restless in their careers to do their own research.

Lower unemployment has seen more people who are employed move into different jobs.

At the same time, there will also be people who, thinking about change and doing some research, will discover their current job suits them after all.
