The Graduate Diploma of Education (Secondary) is for people who wish to become secondary school teachers. It combines academic studies of Core Education units with Curriculum Specialism units appropriate to your first degree and/or subsequent postgraduate qualifications.

The Graduate Diploma of Education (Secondary) is a Monash University program and has Victorian Institution of Teaching (VIT) accreditation which enables graduates to gain teacher registration in Victoria. Reciprocal teacher registration arrangements are available through Australia. For further information contact your local teacher registration authority.

Course overview

This program builds on your undergraduate major and minor studies and through further study and practice develops them into teaching specialisations. You can choose to specialise in Accounting, Biology, Business Management, Chemistry, Economics, English, Geography, History, Health, Information Technology, Mathematics, Media, Music, Outdoor Education, Physical Education, Physics, Psychology, Science, Social Education or the Visual Arts.

You are required to complete eight units comprising four Core Education units, two Curriculum units (7-10) and two Curriculum Specialism units (7-12), across two years of part-time study. Supervised teaching (50 days) practicum placements in the Curriculum Specialism units are conducted in blocks – 2 weeks in each 1st semester and 3 weeks in each 2nd semester of your two years of study.
