BLW14 Legal Framework

Gain an overview of the Australian legal system, concentrating on those areas most applicable to business people. The particular objectives of the unit are to provide a broad outline of Australian law and its purpose, to describe the legislative, administrative and judicial branches of government and to provide an appreciation of some of the legal rules and principles applying to business. The unit provides an opportunity to improve and develop key business skills. You will need a high level of proficiency in the English language, both written and spoken.

FNP22 Law of Investments and Financial Markets

Understand the law pertaining to the liability and regulation of financial planners and investment advisers, regulation of the capital markets of Australia and duties in relation to non-public investments. You will address common law duties, the liabilities of market participants, statutory duties and liabilities of financial advisers, plus chapters 5c, 6d and 7 of the Corporations Act, the ASIC Act and the enforcement and disciplinary powers of regulatory authorities.

Financial planning draws upon a range of disciplines and culminates in the preparation of a financial plan for a client. The practice of financial planning requires understanding of regulation and the application of business management principles and techniques. The first aspect of this unit requires the application of these skills in the preparation, presentation, implementation and review of a personal financial plan for a client. The second aspect of the unit focuses on financial planning practice management and aims to ensure students are aware of many of the practical issues that will confront them in the financial planning industry.

This unit provides a general introduction to the field of information technology. Topics include an introduction to online learning, the history of computing, the internals of computer hardware and software and how they interact, desktop application software (with particular emphasis on word processors and spreadsheets), and the technologies behind the Internet, including a section on basic web site creation.
