Join the career revolution at American Express
If you don’t know what a Hubber is or think that every company offers the same ordinary benefits, get ready for a change with us at American Express.
As one the world's fastest growing and most respected service brands, we lead the way with innovative employment initiatives. By treating people as individuals with different needs, we’re rapidly changing the way our people work, all around the world. American Express is the place to change your career future, for the better.
Coming to terms with options
So what about those fancy words like ‘Hubbers’ and ‘Clubbers’? It all started with feedback from every one of our 3500 team members across Australia and New Zealand. It got us thinking about how we can make the work environment a place our people love to work in, not something they have to work in. The result? Clever initiatives like BlueWork, which, depending on the specific role involved, has created unique work-style options. For example, a Hubber - one who prefers to work in the office, a Clubber - choosing to work between office and home, a Homer - based exclusively at home, and the Roamer - a person who enjoys shifting between office, home and other remote locations. So now you know. This all means you have greater flexibility. And who could argue with that?
It’s all so normal
Summertime Sunshine Fridays (no meetings after 3pm), a subsidised mortgage, increased paid parental leave, opportunity to purchase extra holiday leave in addition to your annual allowance, flexible summer hours, 12 weeks of parental leave…it is pretty normal around here so if you are not currently enjoying any of these benefits, it is time for a change.
What women really want
Finally, people who really know! The award as an Employer of Choice for Women by the Equal Opportunity for Women Agency (EOWA) is something we are really proud of. But when it is an award that we receive year after year, it genuinely speaks of our understanding of what women really want.
“We are very pleased to be on the list for the eighth year in a row,” says Head of Human Resources, Peter Normand. “It is recognition of our organisation’s practices through this citation that will help to attract the best possible talent to American Express.”
Going above and beyond the ordinary, we offer 12 weeks of paid maternity leave (as opposed to six weeks) after 12 months of service, and greater gender diversity with more than 27 per cent of our leaders being women in our fair, transparent and merit-based team environment.
More proof that we’re one of the best
We are not just a favourite among high-achieving women. We are also one of the best and biggest employers for talented people seeking a more challenging and rewarding career. Winning the Large Organisation Award in the 2006/07 Hewitt Best Employers in Australia and New Zealand (ANZ)*, is more proof that we are one of the greatest places for you to lead a successful career.
It’s the little things that count
Being this big and one of the best employers around does not mean we lose sight of the details - quite the opposite. We really tune in and understand your individual needs, giving you everything you require to fulfil and advance in your career with us.
Naomi Miller, a Hubber with Clubber aspirations, says “My past employers claimed they were family-friendly companies with flexible hours. However, I hadn't found that until I came to American Express. It’s the little things that count, like being able to have remote email access, laptop availability and the flexibility to pick my son up from school, without panicking about missed emails or recriminations within the office.”
