British American Tobacco Australia (BATA) might be the place for you
The BAT Global Management Trainee Program is open to highly motivated university graduates with a strong desire to learn and quickly take up the challenges and responsibility of the corporate environment. The program ensures that, as a Management Trainee (MT), you will make your mark as the next generation of BAT leaders.
We believe in freedom of choice - you choose the department that best suits your strengths and a program is structured to your individual development needs. You will get support and encouragement from different areas of the business, as one of our MTs affirms.
"As an MT at BATA, I am provided with a huge support network and unlimited development opportunities," says Finance MT, Irene Hu. "Every MT has a coach, mentor and direct HR contact.
"As we rotate to different teams in our department, we also still have our Line Manager’s support. So every MT is literally supported by four people in the business. We often work directly with senior managers and this exposure encourages, challenges and satisfies me, which I find really rewarding."
At BATA, we take a strong interest in your progress, conducting regular appraisals and offering the support and resources you need. We encourage you to enhance your skills and knowledge through learning from internal and external sources. Working with these role models will give you meaningful coaching and feedback on your professional development.
You get to take charge of your career with us because we believe that you should be in the driver’s seat.
That’s why during regular discussions, your coach and mentor will encourage you to take ownership of your own development and actively manage a future at BATA.
"The best thing about working as an MT for BATA would have to be the ‘can do’ culture that pervades through the organisation," says Supply Chain MT, Anoop D’Almeida. "This facilitates opportunities for MTs like myself to take on jobs with a high level of responsibility right from the start, with the right level of training and confidence."
Wherever you join us and whatever function you choose, our objective is the same
–
we’re looking for people who can go beyond geographical and functional boundaries to pursue personal and business success.
Getting the right start is important when building a successful career. That’s why we structure your early training and career development around induction and functional development.
You will develop the management skills you will need in your future roles with both formal training and on the job experience and you will get to put these skills into practice as soon as you start, as Anoop and Irene have discovered.
"After only six months into my MT program, I was given the opportunity of being responsible for the commissioning of a multi-million-dollar project," Anoop says. "This is something I couldn’t even perceive at the start of the program. The confidence that BATA has displayed in my abilities has been a great boost, as well as motivating me to perform even better."
Irene also praises the program. "As a Finance MT, I have completed my rotation in Marketing Finance, Internal Audit and I am currently part of the company planning and reporting team," she says. "I have just discovered that I will be going to New Zealand for my three-month secondment and with the skills and knowledge I’ve gained over the past year, I am ready to go beyond!"
Once you have built a solid foundation for your functional, managerial and business-awareness development, the next step is to build on the skills you have learnt as a Management Trainee and start fulfilling your long-term aspirations. With support and guidance from us, you will play an important role in identifying this next step.
We are currently recruiting Management Trainees across all areas of our business for 2009. This includes positions in New Zealand and the South Pacific.
