AusAID is the Australian Government’s agency for international development. It plans, coordinates and manages the Australian Government’s overseas aid program, predominantly focused in the Asia Pacific region in line with Australia’s national interests.

Overarching facts

AusAID advises the Government on international development policy and manages Australia’s overseas aid program. AusAID’s work contributes to a global commitment to achieve eight ‘Millennium Development Goals’ to:
• halve the number of people living in extreme poverty and hunger
• ensure that all children receive primary education
• promote sexual equality and give women a stronger voice
• reduce child death rates
• improve the health of mothers
• combat HIV and AIDS, malaria and other diseases
• make sure the environment is protected
• build a global partnership for those working in development.
Working for AusAID gives you a unique, first-hand insight into international diplomacy issues affecting developing countries. Your role could be as diverse as:
• preparing submissions and briefings on international development issues for the Minister
• representing AusAID at international meetings/seminars
• providing policy advice on Economic Growth, Education, Environment, Gender, Governance, Health, HIV/AIDS, Pandemics, Human Rights, Infrastructure, Regional Stability, Rural Development and Water
• providing program/project management and support to the Regional Programs
• monitoring aid effectiveness
• managing relationships with NGOs and multilaterals such as UNICEF and the World Health Organisation
• providing disaster relief support following a humanitarian crisis or disaster
• supporting the agency in corporate functions such as HR, Finance, Property Management, IT and Public Affairs.
