Mark began his KPMG Career as a cadet in 2003, just eight weeks after finishing high school. With the backing and financial assistance of KPMG, Mark graduated with distinction from his degree in accountancy. Six years later, Mark is now a Chartered Accountant and a Senior Adviser within KPMG’s IT Advisory practice, advising some of KPMG’s largest clients.

Why I chose KPMG… It was initially because of the Cadetship program. It enabled me to study whilst gaining invaluable on the job experience which I felt would accelerate my career. KPMG was very generous with exam and study leave and the financial support was very beneficial.

A day in the life of… I find it exciting that every day I’m doing something different because I provide many different services (from financial modelling to technology audit) to such a diverse range of clients, including Government, Entertainment and Banking. I spend most of my time working at my client’s office, which provides an excellent opportunity to build relationships and gain intimate knowledge of their business. Last year I was seconded interstate to a major bank where I spent nine months working directly with the bank’s management. KPMG provides extensive and regular training as well. I was recently sent on a two day retreat to Mount Eliza to develop team leadership skills. But it’s not all work. Our group has a very strong focus on culture, so when Friday comes, you’ll find many of us (from grads to partners) out for a drink or two at the local.

Future prospects… Now that I’ve completed my Chartered Accounting qualification, I plan to focus on developing my career experience and knowledge by engaging myself on client jobs in as many different industries as possible. I then hope to make the most of KPMG’s Global Mobility Program and
