Finding a Job - Help

What's a Keyword Search?

mycareer.com.au's Targeted Keyword Search is one of the most useful search tools in helping you find the job you’re made for. By refining your search to include only the jobs that contain the keyword(s) you entered, you can spend more time viewing the right jobs and less time searching through irrelevant ones

So if you were to enter ‘Marketing Manager’ into the Keyword Search, roles with that title will rise directly to the top.Power searching with keywords.

What are search criteria?

This is the information you select to help narrow down your search to include only those jobs that interest you. By specifying more or less criteria you can control how wide a net you cast.

The most common tools to focus your search include:

  • Sector: select from a list of industries
  • Subsector: select one or more specialisations within your chosen sector
  • Location: select from cities and regions in Australia, New Zealand and overseas
  • Salary: remuneration range (may include benefits such as superannuation, car…)
  • Search Last: select how recently an ad must be posted to be included in your results

What is Advanced Search?

Advanced Search is an expanded search function that lets you select multiple sectors, subsectors and locations in a bid to find the right job. Here you can limit your search to only include government jobs, include more than one sector at a time, or specify the type of work you are after – like part time for example.

How can I run the same search again quickly? / What is 'Last Search'?

To save you time, we’ll save your search criteria and display them as your ‘Last Search’ on the home page. We’ll even run your search and show the top three matches just below it. Next time you come to the site, just click ‘Re-run Search’ and away you go.

When you’re getting search results that are right for you, click ‘Email me jobs like these’ from the Search Results page to turn them into a Job Alert.

Why doesn't Last Search show my criteria?

For Last Search to work, you need to have searched first. Try doing a search, then click HOME and check again.

If your search criteria still do not show, you may need to refresh the page by holding the CTRL key and clicking the ‘Refresh’ button in your browser

How can I find a job I saw in the newspaper?

Newspaper ads online? You better believe it!

Advertisers can choose to place their job ads either online, in a newspaper or both. Therefore, not all ads that are printed in a Fairfax newspaper appear on mycareer.com.au and vice versa.

Ads that appear in a newspaper and online are loaded onto mycareer.com.au early in the morning on the day of their publication and remain on the site for between seven and 30 days.

If the advertiser didn’t post the ad online, you can contact the newspapers for back issues.

The Age: You can have newspapers from the last 6 months delivered to your local news agent the next business day for no more than $2. Just call The Age Home Delivery Hotline on (03) 9604 1460 to organise it.

Sydney Morning Herald: You can have newspapers from the last 2 weeks delivered to your local news agent. Call (02) 9282 3802.

Back issues of both The Age and Sydney Morning Herald are also stored at the Victorian and New South Wales State Libraries.

Why haven't I received a copy of my application?

If you ticked the box to receive an email copy of your application but haven’t received one, it might be because of your email security settings. Try checking your Junk Mail folder to see if it’s there.

If this is the case, it doesn’t mean that the company or recruiter did not receive your application. It just means your settings may be causing unfamiliar emails to be automatically diverted from your inbox.

To stop this from happening in the future, simply add ‘mycareer.com.au’ to your ‘Safe List’. This will ensure that all mycareer.com.au mail will be delivered to your Inbox. Here’s how:

Outlook 2003:

  5. Click ‘Add’ again and enter fairfaxdigital.com.au, then click ‘OK’
  6. Click ‘OK’ to close both settings boxes

Hotmail:

  1. Log into your Hotmail account
  2. Click ‘Options’ > ‘Junk E-mail Protection’ > ‘Safe List’
  3. Enter mycareer.com.au in the box and click ‘Add’
